Mary’s Problem

By Mary Grace R.

Mary is very, very short.  She has blond hair.  She likes to have a lot of color.  Grace is very, very tall, with dark hair.  She doesn’t like as much color as Mary.  They’re at Mary’s house.  Mary lives in an apartment.  Grace lives in the floor below.  In Mary’s house, she has a big room.  Mary has a lime green room with pink furniture.

Grace has a purple room with black furniture.  Grace doesn’t have a lot of color in her room, whereas Mary had a lot of color in her room.

Mary heard her mom from the bottom of the stairs.

            “Coming, Mom,” said Mary.

When she got downstairs, Grace was there.

            “Hi, Grace,” Mary said.

“Hello.  I see you got a new shirt.”

“Yes, I did. Do you like it?” asked Mary.

“No, because it is the sixth new shirt this week,” Grace retorted.

            “I’m sorry,” Mary said.

            “I’m leaving,” said Grace.

            “Bye.”

Mary went upstairs to get dressed.  She ran to school (because she missed the bus).  The first subject was Math.  Mary HATED Math.  Mary saw Grace. She wouldn’t talk to her, because she got a new shirt. Then Mary had an idea.

“I should buy her three new shirts.”

Instead of three new shirts, Mary bought Grace six new shirts and one pair of pants.  When Grace got to school, she saw the present from Mary.

            “What is this?” she asked.

            “Some new shirts,” answered Mary.

“Thanks,” Grace said cheerily.  “I forgive you.”

“I forgive you, too,” said Mary.
