Stranded

By Evan E.

Both Pencil and Amber’s cruise ships sunk and the other souvenirs stayed in the water.  They swam to the island.  Pencil found a wooden bat and ball.  It had a face and then the bat and ball started to talk.  It was like magic—a talking baseball and bat.

He played ball with them.  He hit the ball too far, it went into the woods, and Pencil went to go get it.  In the woods, he bumped into Amber, and they scared each other.

They calmed down and said, “Why don’t we help each other get off this island?”

“I think we need to make a flare,” said Amber.

Pencil said, “How are we going to get it that high?  Why don’t we make a catapult?”

Amber said, “What are we going to make it out of?”

“My baseball and bat of course.”

“Why didn’t I think of that?”

“I don’t know.”

“Hey look!  I found a pocket knife,” said Amber.

“Good,” said Pencil.  “We can use it to hold the bat in the catapult.  We can cut off the rubber from the ball since there’s string inside it.  We can use it for the trampoline effect.  We can set it on fire and use the bat for a flare.  Hey look a magnifying glass.  We can use it to set the bat on fire.”

So we put it together and it looked like this.  The sun’s heat will go through the magnifying glass and set the bat on fire.  They launched it.  They got it in the air and someone found it and rescued the people that were still in the water.
