The Journey to Ireland

By Olivia P.

One day a girl named Grace, about the age of seven, was heading outside in her pretty polka-dot dress.  She just had her favorite breakfast—pancakes with extra maple syrup.  She was playing Frisbee with her best friend, Rachel.  She was in Grace’s class.

It was the first day of summer.

“Get it,” exclaimed Grace as she threw the Frisbee to Rachel.

            “Got it!” screamed Rachel.

Grace was getting ready to go on a camping trip. She takes one every year with her dad.  They go to Lake George and visit their grandmother.

“I have to go and I will be back on Monday,” said Grace.

            “Oh,” said Rachel.

They drove all the way down to the Florida International Airport. They were flying on U.S. Airways.  They walked up to a machine and it printed out their boarding passes.  Then they went up the escalator up to the security machines where they check your carry-on.

“So, where are you heading today?” asked the security guy.

“We are going to Lake George in New York,” said Grace.

The guy checked their boarding passes and let them through.  When they got out of the security machines, they heard their flight was taking off in 5 minutes.  They dashed to their gate, but Grace got lost.  Then, she saw her dad.  She caught up to him and got on the plane, but it wasn’t her dad.  She noticed when she got off the plane that it was in IRELAND!

            “Ahhhhh!” she screamed.

She had forgotten that before they got to the airport, she had taken her dad’s wallet.  It had an address book in it. She took out the address book and found that her Uncle Bob lived in Ireland.  She used the money to get a taxi there.  Then, she rang the doorbell and Uncle Bob stepped out.  He was wearing long stockings and a long Irish plaid skirt.  He also had a funny accent.

“Grace,” he exclaimed.  “How did you get here?”

“I…took the wrong plane,” she said.

Then she told Uncle Bob everything that happened.  Uncle Bob put her on a plane to go home.  She finally saw her dad, but just when she was about to tell him where she went, he said, “Next year, let’s go to Ireland.”
